Primary sources
I have really enjoyed learning how to analyze primary documents. It’s definitely a skill I need to practice but I think it’s really interesting to look at one document through many different lens’. There’s so much you can learn from a document but one thing I want to keep in mind is to think of the historical context and what was going on at that time. It’s also so important to be empathetic and understand what people’s views were at the time.
secondary sources
Secondary sources are really interesting because you get to see the historian or the author’s perspective which may be very different than your own. Something to take away from secondary sources is that you need to be aware of potential bias’. Each author or historian brings their own bias to their work and being self-aware of your own bias is crucial when you are researching.
